The Source : About this site

Autumn Sun SettingWhether you're wistful for Walton, one of Peter’s disciples from Crabtree, were bewitched by late-night Wilson, enthralled by 'A Passion for Angling' or just can’t get enough of the Discovery Channel, we hope that you will find something to interest you here. This site is aimed at those who appreciate all of the above, approach their fishing with a little forethought, and for whom angling is more than just a hobby.

Where does the name come from? Piscatoribus Sacrum is the inscription above the door on Charles Cotton’s limestone fishing lodge by the River Dove in Beresford Dale near Hartington, very close to where the PS editor grew up. The temple still stands, on private land. It seems an apt repository for the collected ramblings of the disparate group known as the Work Party. This group, for no monetary encouragement, just enjoy writing and sharing their experiences, knowledge (sometimes self-admittedly limited) and views on their favourite pastime. We want to stress that there is nothing elitist about the PS Work Party; it represents, we hope, all that is decent in angling and encompasses various ages, backgrounds, nationalities and styles. The WP shares a common love and respect of all things piscatorial: saltwater or fresh, coarse, game or sea, traditional or modern, all are treated equally.

A Yateley Winter - GraemeFew of the WP would describe themselves as “proper writers” and some would consider themselves dragged up rather than educated. Whilst the editor is a pedant and tries to correct spelling, grammar and other misdemeanors, you don’t have to respond to the urge to report any errors to us. Just take it as it comes, so to speak.

Please remember that we are all pretty opinionated, but that the opinions expressed on this site are those of the individual concerned rather than the Work Party as a whole or the site itself. Unlike much of modern society, we believe in free speech (but not personal abuse). Our lack of commercial support means that we can say what we like, when we like, with no hidden agenda. The Blackwater in Winter - DaveThat has to be refreshing enough an invitation for any casual reader to delve in and find something to capture their attention.

Finally, we consider tolerance to be an admirable virtue. Hence, you will not find snobbery here, although there may be the odd outbreak of age-related grumpiness from time to time. All are welcome – be your rod made of cane or carbon, greenheart or glass; whether you prefer to fish a languid lake, a full-blooded river or a babbling brook matters little. What is important is respect for the fish we pursue and the environment they inhabit, and consideration for our fellow piscators.
